Skit of the year...

Thursday, August 30, 2007
For those that have not seen the skit of the year, here it is.

Our College Life group put this on this week, and IMO, they did it better than the link below... but still very powerful.

Good or bad?

Gone are the days of 3% market share!

Apple now sells more than one in six laptops in U.S.

This is a good thing, because more people are coming over from the dark side, but a bad thing, because the more people on a Mac, the more hackers/viruses there will be.

TV and all...

Sunday, August 26, 2007
Something amazing has happened.

I was just looking at the shows that I have set to record this next week (I record all of my TV on my computer). I have 8 shows set to record every week, and a bunch of Good Eats. EVERY single show is NOT on a major network! NO NBC, NO FOX, NO ABC, NO CBS... to list them:
The Comedy Channel (The Colbert Report)
USA (Psych)
The Discovery Channel (Mythbusters)
AMC (Mad Men)
Food Network (Good Eats, Feasting on Asphalt, Food Network Challenge)

And I thought I could get by without cable! I am just glad that I am not paying for it!

Anyone want a cast?

Anyone want an arm cast? How 'bout one for $8,000?

Luckily, all proceeds go to charity!

Tis sad...

This morning, my sister e-mailed me a link to a story about someone hacking the iPhone.

My reply: Windows WGA Validation Server Goes Down

Close, but no cigar

Tonight I went to "Casino Night", sponsored by CollegeLife. It was fun to hang out and party, gamble lots of fake money, and eat lots of finger foods. But it lacked the sort of friendship that I am looking for; there was really no one there that I could hang out with. Sure, there were people that I knew, but not enough to hang out with them. So I signed up for a Life Group, which has about a dozen people in it. Hopefully, I will get to know these guys better.

Love

Thursday, August 16, 2007
At one point I was planning on sitting down and explaining my day to help you understand the emotions and hurt and pain that I went though today (even though some great friends were around). However, I don't feel like it anymore, so let me just say:

I was driving home tonight, and heard these lyrics come out of my iPod:
"I was made to love you
I was made to find you
I was made just for you
Made to adore you
I was made to love
And be loved by you
You were here before me
You were wating on me
And you said you'd keep me
Never would you leave me
I was made to love
and be loved by you"

Who knew TobyMac could make me cry? Driving though the prettiest lightning storm ever, my face was not wet because my windows were down (they were). My voice was literally cracking as I sang this chorus several times. It rings so true, that it is ALL about LOVE (as Stephen Curtis Chapman once put it).

The song reminded me that no matter what crap life throws at us, no matter how awfully we feel, how bad our body is crying out in pain, my soul is crying out for so much more. I have an amazing network of family and friends that will always love me, and always show it; but their love will NEVER compare to the love that Jesus Christ has for me, the love that he has always had for me, OR the love that he always will have for me.

The next time you are in pain, you are tired, you are lonely, you are hurt, you are drained, remember that these pains are nothing compared to the love that Christ Jesus has for you.

May the love and mercy of Christ wash over you in every moment of pain, in every moment of doubt, in every moment of hurt, in every moment of shame, in every moment of worry; may the love of Christ prevail in your life. Amen.

"Now, for something a little different." Funny video of the day!

Free is good.

I am looking for a free laptop. We need it on our TV show "Time with God." All it will do is play a simple Powerpoint that counts down the seconds so the talent knows when to end the show. Mac or PC (I can put up with a PC). Oh, and because you will be donating it to a Non-Profit, you can receive a tax break for it.

Know of anyone with an old, outdated, cheap laptop that I can have?

The price of a Passport

Tuesday, August 14, 2007
The price of a new passport: $40,000 for some, a lot more for others.

A new policy is now in effect: you cannot receive a passport if you owe over $2,500 in child support (you may receive your passport once you pay it all off). This means that some people are finding lump sums of money so that they may go on vacation, or do business overseas. Thus far in 2007, 22.5 million dollars has been turned over to the correct parent because of this new policy... I guess I should note that it is completely coincidental that the "22.5 million dollar" number has been in two consecutive posts of mine now.

Any who, read all about it here.

Matthew

Yea 2!

OK, and now for the totally exciting cool news:

I just received a $1000 scholarship from Chick-fil-A!

This is why I totally LOVE Chick-fil-A. It proves that they really care about their employees. To date, Chick-fil-A has given it's employees over 22.5 million dollars in scholarships! So, next time you go into a Chick-fil-A and pay slightly more for better tasting food, know that you are supporting thousands of college kids (like me) across America. We thank you.

Matthew

Yea!

I hope to post some extremely good news later today.

And I turned off comment moderation, so you can now post, and it will show up right away... and no, that is not the extremely good news.

Disgusting...

"A new report in the August issue of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine found that preschool children preferred the taste of food in McDonald’s packaging to the taste of the same exact food in unbranded packaging."

"A secondary analysis found that children preferred the tastes of foods and drinks that were thought to be from McDonald’s for four out of five comparisons. Preschoolers with more television sets in their homes and children who ate McDonald’s food more often were more likely to prefer foods and drinks they thought were from McDonald’s, the study concluded."

"The food and beverage industries spend more than $10 billion per year to market to children in the United States,” according to background information in the article." (link)

Instead of spending TEN BILLION dollars a year trying to sell your product, why not use it to provide clean drinking water to the billion people on the earth that don't have access to sanitary water? Why not spend it on bettering the world, instead of bettering your wallet?

The problem with America is that our mentality is "I want more money, and will do anything to get it." That is why God wants us to tithe. Tithing reminds us that it ISN'T all about money, it IS all about giving back to God. If America wanted to, we could literally bring every third world country out of that category, giving them clean water, and enough food to eat, but instead, we are only interested in padding our own pockets.

When was the last time you used your money to spread God's word?
