It's "Pornography", not "Porn"

Tuesday, May 20, 2008
I have a new favorite quote of the year... that's right, it is so good, it is the best quote of the YEAR! Here it is:

"If porn could carry a knife, it would stab you. It's a jerk like that."

It comes from a post over at the Stuff Christians Like Blog that talks about people Googling for the word "porn" and finding his site. I can relate, because I have a post talking about pornography and my addiction, which brings some weird people from Google over here.

Joh's post ends perfectly. Not too preachy, but it also doesn't back down. He offers help to anyone who needs it, then he says:

"Sorry this visit was so weird. Chances are, it's only going to get weirder if God's trying to let you know how much He loves you."

Future Me

Wednesday, May 14, 2008
Today I received a letter in the mail addressed to "Future Matthew Kelling." See, when we were in Washington DC on our mission trip, we wrote a letter to our future selves. Here is the letter that I wrote to myself:

3/21/08
Dear Future Matthew,

I know you won't remember this feeling, but I will try to personify it. I am still sad at having to leave Marcia. She still breaks my heart. Remember that God calls us to serve the poor, so go out of your way to help them. Get Chick-fil-A sandwiches for those at the day labor sites. (get Matt to give you a discount!)

I feel lonely, but not all in a bad way. I want to serve Christ with all that I am, with all that I do, no matter the cost to myself! I want to figure out life (whatever that means!). I feel a lack of joy, but not a "joy" of happiness with money or a "joy" of having things. I lack joy in Christ, which is hard to say being a lifelong Christian. I lack actions, thoughts, and emotions that would lead me to a joy in Christ. FIND THIS JOY! Find this joy and surround yourself with love and friendship. Happiness is temporary, joy is eternal.

Rest. Sleep in Christ. This world can't be everything. When you are down, turn to Christ to lift you back up.

May God be in you and bless you.

P.S. Give Todd a hard time about "Awkward T. Rex"!

Running

A Haiku for you:

I hate my running.
It is hot and, yes, sweaty.
Running good for you.

OK, off to run.

Good news!

For those that just happen to grace the front page of Pflugerville ISD's web page, you might (or might not) recognize the chicka featured there. In fact, it is Cindy Ward, who was my fifth grade teacher (then known as Cindy Maddox). She was just announced as "District Elementary Teacher of the Year" for Pflugerville! I wanted to give a huge CONGRATULATIONS to her! She was a huge inspiration to me in school, and continues to inspire me in many ways!

My only question is: In the article, she mentions Ed Monson as being her mentor... Who is this Ed guy, and why wasn't I her mentor? I was in the first class that she taught, so I must have taught her everything there is to know about teaching and stuff. *sigh* I cain't get no respect.

Homemade...

Wednesday, May 07, 2008
So I was just watching a McDonald's commercial. Here is a paraphrase of the copy:
"Now you can have chicken for breakfast. Introducing the bla-bla-bla biscuit, with our juicy seasoned chicken breast on a homemade tasting biscuit."

That's right, their biscuits are "homemade tasting." Counter that with Chick-fil-A where they make their biscuits every morning from scratch. Chick-fil-A's biscuits aren't "homemade tasting", they are homemade.

Sorry, but "homemade tasting" just doesn't make my mouth water.

Good...

I am sitting down with a fresh cooked meal ((Almost) Kelling Family Doritos Salad) about to watch last week's LOST. Life can't get much better than this (OK, to be more accurate, *this moment in time* can't get much better than this) (oh, and to be even MORE accurate, this moment in time could only be better if my brother were here rubbing my feet).
